Meeting report [by Barry Cooper]

Club Meetings:: Meeting report
Our meeting at Kit's place last weekend went well. About 14 people attended. Thanks to those who braved the weather. Actually, the weather wasn't too bad and nobody reported problems getting there.

After Patrick's departure from being involved in the club we had to elect new officers. Following our tradition of electing someone who was not at the meeting, we elected Matt Kaufman as president. Don't be alarmed Matt, it doesn't involve much work.

We elected Him Graybill as treasurer. Some time soon I will arrange for him to become eligible to sign on our account at OSU credit union and to get our cash box to him.

Finally, I will continue, at least for now, to serve as webmaster and secretary.

We then went on to the more important issues of organizing WCW. I reported on progress. The most pressing things have been done. The most important immediate concern is to identify fish to be acquired for the auction. I will be contacting a few people I know if Europe, to get fish to be carried by our speaker Jouke van der Zee, but I hope that everyone on the west coast will make an effort to bring or send fish.

Any questions, contact me.

Barry Cooper

West Coast Weekend:: WCW 2012
West Coast Weekend will be held on the weekend of April 13-15 at the Red Lion on the River hotel, in Jantzen Beach, Portland, Oregon.

So far two speakers have been confirmed, namely Jouke van der Zee, from Holland and Dario Valenzano from Stanford University. Jouke will give two talks. I am considering giving a video presentation myself on one or some of our collecting trips in East Africa. Those talks should provide a nice balance.

There will be a "social dinner" using the hotel facilities, on the Saturday evening. This has been included to satisfy food and beverage commitments. We hope that all attendees will help by participating in that dinner.

More information will be posted here as it becomes available.

Barry Cooper

Re: December meeting? [by Barry Cooper]

Club Meetings:: December meeting?
Folks,

it appears too few members can attend a meeting on December 18 to make it useful. That's understandable that close to Xmas. I have been told by Kit Stowell that he can host our traditional January meeting as early as Jan. 14. So, I suggest we cancel the December meeting and have a meeting at Kit's on Jan. 14.

In the meantime, I will continue work on the two most urgent aspects of organizing WCW, namely identifying a hotel and identifying speakers.

I have received about a dozen replies to the form I posted. Of those about 10 want to see WCW go forward. I am therefore working on the assumption that we are going to do it. If you haven't responded to that form, please do so. You'll see the link in my earlier message.

Barry

I, uhh, got persuaded to acquire a bunch of ANN males.

Anyone got extra females they can part with? It's an easy fish to breed, and the club up here likes them, so hoping to grow up a few pairs.

Thanks

The NWK Lounge:: Got any spare aphyosemion eggs?
I just let my fish lay in the gravel and plants, so I don't pick a lot of eggs lately. A schoolteacher in Nebraska has reached out the AKA BOT looking for some killifish eggs for a project involving send the eggs into space and checking for mutations. Interesting sounding project. I suppose they'll want some fertile gardneri eggs. Any volunteers? Pls reply to me directly off-list:
mailto:igotadose@hotmail.com

Thanks
