AKA Convention 2009

We feel confident in organizing the convention because of our experience in mounting West Coast Weekend. NWK has hosted the last four WCW events and prior to that the event was organized by BAKA.

This year, for example, WCW attracted a total of 71 registrations, some being families, amounting to about 90 attendees.

We had a total of 366 fish entries to the show and silent auction. No fish were lost because of water problems.
We had excellent support from our fellow west coast clubs, just as we will at the convention.

We will not offer WCW in 2009, of course, but we think of the convention as "AKA Convention, with West Coast Weekend". For that reason we will strive to offer an outstanding event.

These unsolicited comments attest to our success with WCW XVI in 2007 & promise a great convention in 2009:
  • Thanks to all the great killikeepers and speakers who made WCW a memorable event. I would characterize the show this year as "Happy".
  • The fish were amazing, and the speakers took us to other worlds to show us the diversity and beauty of life on earth. I always come away from WCW with a freshening of spirit and new appreciations for those who love the little beauties that inhabit our tanks.
  • I had a blast at West Coast Weekend. There were terrific speakers, tons of fish and wonderful companionship (a special thanks to whoever picked up the beer tab for 30+ people Friday night!). Bring on Portland for an AKA Convention!
  • I would also like to echo what others have said about the WCW show. It was one of the most enjoyable shows I have attended, run in the usual friendly atmosphere that I have come to associate with the event.
  • Thank you for a great Killie weekend. You guys really went out of your way to make everyone feel welcome. I was amazed at the many members working to make sure the weekend went well. You have a strong club. I would recommend a visit to your convention to anyone interested in killies. Thanks again, hope to see you all at future killie events.
  • Let me add my compliments to the WCW mini-convention. I traveled from New Jersey (inexpensive non-stop round trip flight) and am thrilled I went. Portland is a beautiful little city with mountains, fir forests, rivers and a great climate. The event was planned well and went off without any sense of rush. The programs were excellent.
