Sponsoring Affiliated Clubs  (Top)

There are many AKA affiliated killie clubs serving regional areas throughout the United States. Contact with these clubs is often the best way for newcomers to learn about the killie hobby

Bay Area Killie Association   (Top)

The Bay Area Killifish Association (BAKA) , is one of the oldest regional clubs decated to Killifish, and is composed a loose knit group of people who have one major thing in common, Killifish! Over the last 30 years, BAKA has counted among its membership some of the most prominent killikeepers in the United States. Presently BAKA has a mailing list over 100 with about 25 active members at each monthly meeting. The active members generally live within the San Francisco Bay Area (California, USA), but a few members drive over an hour to get to the monthly meetings and auctions.

The monthly meetings are devoted to sharing information on the killifish. Monthly programs on new species, genus groups, habitats, collecting rips, breeding tips and environmental concerns are followed by an auction of fish. BAKA regularly arranges for a large number of species from breeders in the United States and abroad to shipped to the Club meetings to be distributed to the members through the auction. Our auctions are interesting and lively. A tremendous variety of exceptional fish are regularly available. Members exchange "lonely hearts" through contacts at the meetings. BAKA also hosts a number of other annual activities such as collection trips, environment restoration projects and of course the "West Coast Weekend", one of the premier killifish show in the United States.

Membership in BAKA is composed of anyone who attends the monthly meetings. There are no dues for membership. The club meets on the fourth Saturday of the month. Both beginners and advanced aquarists are welcomed to attend. The meetings have something for killifolk of all levels of skill and knowledge.

The informal meeting is held in a pizza parlor and usually has 10-25 people in
attendance. A good number of the members order pizza and such and have it delivered to them in the meeting. Family members are welcomed to attend.

There is typically a guest speaker at each of the meetings. The upcoming topics will undoubtably be as interesting and informative as those of the past which have included presentations on collection trips, water quality and species groups. There is very little business that takes place at the meetings. Most of the time is spent talking about killies, sharing information and enjoying the presentation. The meeting ends with an auction of fish and supplies that people have brought in or that the Club has arranged to be shipped in. If you have never seen a killfish, you are in for a treat! Stop by and say hi.

Keystone Killy Group  (Top)

The Keystone Killy Group is the affiliate club of the American Killifish Association serving the eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland area. It is in it's 28th year as a group, having survived name changes and location changes. A few of the original Delaware Valley Killifish Association (founded in 1970) are still active members. It's primary purpose is to foster exchange of information, supplies, food and fishes. The KKG does not now have any dues, but we expect members to actively participate in meetings and support the club by buying or selling in the auction. The cost of mailing will require $3.00 from each regular member who wishes to receive notices. Exchange groups will continue to receive notices gratis. Attendees at the meetings are asked to contribute $1.00 to defray the cost of refreshments. For information about the club and its meetings, contact:

MAKA, an affiliate of the American Killifish Association, is one of the largest speciality aquatic associations in the United States, as well as one of the oldest. MAKA has held hundreds of monthly meetings since it was first organized in 1970. Among the active clubs members are such well-known aquarists as Rosario LaCorte (Secretary), Lenny Mackowiak (President and former AKA New & Rare Species Committee Chairman), and George Slusarczuk (former editor of the AKA Journal).

Meetings are held the 4th Wednesday of each month in Bloomfield NJ at 8:30 PM, in the basement of the Styretown Insurance office. The meetings begin with a reading of the minutes, a financial report, and new/old topic discussion, and then proceed with a presentation typically lasting around 45 minutes. The meetings conclude with an auction, often with 40 bags or more of killies, killie eggs, plants, and equipment. Coffee and a variety of donuts and cakes are served. Cans of brine shrimp eggs are available at nominal prices.

Membership fees are $10 annually. Please contact Lenny for additional information or to get directions to the meeting. We heartily encourage all to come visit MAKA. We're sure you'll find the company enjoyable, the members quite knowledgeable, and the fish unbeatable!  Contact:

Our acronym, UNYKA, is pronounced "unique-ah". Roughly centered in Syracuse in Central New York, our members live from Canada in the north, Medford in the east, Elmira in the west to New Berlin in the south. Meetings are held monthly on Sundays at noon in members homes excepting bad weather in the winter.

A friendly and informal group, our meetings consist of a brief business meeting followed by lunch where we can exchange killie knowledge and peruse our hosts fishroom. All attendees are asked to contribute $3.00 towards lunch. Occasionally, there will be a more prepared presentation by a member or guest speaker. The meetings always conclude with an auction of killies, eggs and related hobby items. The auction split is currently 50/50.

To service our members we stock fish bags and frozen food. Membership dues are only $5.00/year to cover the costs of our newsletter, UNYKA TIMES. Visitors are always welcome with prior notice to enable our hosting member to plan food needs. If you would like to attend a meeting or just find out more about our club, contact:

Fish Link Central   (Top)

mark1.gif (12100 bytes)Well, this is me - Mark Barnett.

Fish Link Central started off as "Fish Club Central"   I was the editor for the Atlanta Area Aquarium Association's monthly newsletter, Fish Talk. I wanted to exchange the newsletter with other clubs around the world. Before, I could do this, I needed their exchange address. I found a number of lists on the Internet. I send a letter to each one that I could find. Now, that I had all of this information, I decided to publish it on the Internet - so Fish Club Central was created!

As I added links to Fish Club Central, I decided to rename to Fish Link Central. I decided to get my own domain, www.fishlinkcentral.com in Feb. 97 and it has grown from there.

I have added a number of different sections:

•Fish Photos - Currently over 500 photos of Freshwater Fish. •Fish Bookstore - A collection of books for sale by Amazon. •Fish Software - Probably the largest collection of "aquatic" shareware available. •Fish Discussion Board / Trading Post - These two sections have changed a number of times as I have updated the scripts that run them. I wanted a place where people to discuss various topics and a place that would allow people to buy, sell or trade their fish and equipment •Fish Article Database - This is a database of articles on the Internet  and is searchable. •Ask A Question - This is a group of volunteers who will help answer your questions you might have.

Things to come in the future? I don't want to simply do the same things that the other sites are doing.

•Fish Profiles - All the basic information of a particular fish

If you have any suggestions or comments, you can send me feedback.
