The Dominican Republic is
pictured as a lush Caribbean Island surrounded by coral reefs. While that is true in many
areas of the Country, there are several sections which are arid and desert-like. The arid
areas harbor pupfish in some very unique habitats. Some of the other endemic fishes will
be featured along with the pupfish descriptions. The presentation will feature what the
Aquarium has found on its last field survey in 1998.
Roger Klocek Graduated University of Illinois, 1971, BA Biology
and started work at the Shedd Aquarium
that year as an aquarist in the Native Fish Section, Shedd Aquarium, Chicago. Became

Became the Curator of Fishes in 1978 and served there until 1994, when a small
conservation Department was opened at the Aquarium. Serves as the Conservation Director
presently, with responsibilities of coordinating field marine and freshwater programs,
which includes vanishing species breeding. Roger was ignorant of killifish field until
1987, when he had a miraculous conversion of interest into desert pupfishes, fostered by AKA members. Currently pursuing advanced degree in land
