He will talk about his collecting experiences in Cameroon. His main
research interest in Cameroon was the study of population variation in Fundulopanchax mirabilis
moensis and Fundulopanchax mirabilis mirabilis. During his stay in Cameroon he
collected numerous species of killifishes throughout the southern 1/3rd of Cameroon.
Numerous new locations of killies were collected and were brought back to the US for
introduction into the hobby. As might be expected he brought back five different
localities of Fp. mirabilis. Also, three locations of A. cameronense, inlcuding the type
locality at Ambam, were collected. In addition to discussing what was collected he will
also discuss what species were not found.
Nevin Aspinwall is a Professor of Biology
at St. Louis University. He has been interested
over the last thirty years in the population structure of fishes and in hybridization
between fish species. He is presently on the Board of Trustees of the AKA. As part of a sabbatical leave from his university he
recently spent four months in Cameroon teaching at the University of Buea and conducting
research on rainforest killifishes.
