November Meeting Club Business
Most of the discussion centered on the 1999 convention plans.
General call for assistance
Although the convention committee is well on its way making arrangements for the
convention, there will be plenty of jobs to go around come Memorial Day. So please be
ready to lend a hand at setting up the fish room, being a runner at the auction, or just
spelling other members at the tables during the weekend.
Speakers
Three of the speakers have confirmed already:
We will announce the remaining speakers and presentation titles by the next meeting and on the convention web site.
Awards
The club has commissioned Ken McKeighan to paint the awards. Everyone familiar with Ken's
work is excited as his awards are treasured in killie keeper's fishrooms.
November Meeting Program
Jay Dryer from Champaign, IL, was our speaker. Jay recounted his collecting experiences in South America when he was making regular trips 20 years ago. Rather than giving a travelogue, Jay spoke of some of true hazards faced by collectors in third world countries. On one trip, he wanted to visit five collecting sites but his Colombian guide refused to take him to three of the sites. This in spite of being paid the equivalent of two months salary for a weeks worth of work.
Comments from the group on today's conditions in Columbia, where many foreigners are kidnapped for ransom and then murdered regardless of payment, drives home the point that collecting in some locations around the world is not just difficult, but sometimes can even be a life threatening situation..
Board Elections
The club elected three new board members; Lincoln "Linc" Michal, Phil Schneidewind, and Michael Stoecker. The board then selected this year's officers. The new president is Bill Vannerson, the Vice President is Tim Gagne, and the secretary is Chuck Stifel.
Our thanks to outgoing board members Arlene and Ken "Magilla" Mysliwiec, and Robert Schultz. Ken and Arlene especially were instrumental in locating a suitable site for our national convention bid.
January Meeting
IMPORTANT NOTICE: All members' dues are due at the January meeting. Dues for one year are $10.
Jim Gaisor, president of the Wisconsin Area Killifish Organization (WAKO), will be our speaker. His presentation is titled, "Killifish: from egg to egg". It will cover how to handle killies from fry until they lay eggs
