I am experiementing with different substrates for collecting eggs from these fish, primarily Aphyolebias rubrocaudatus and A. sp. helenae. I don´t have the usual access to peat moss here in the jungle, so I have taken to shredding leaves to see if they will use this to spawn in. If you have improvised solutions to this problem using alternative bedding materials for your soil spawners, please share!

Gracias,

Tree fern roots, crushed. Should be easy to find there. Don't know if they'll sink, if boiled they probably will.

Brian- if I were there, I would try to use your skill saw to cut some of those Brazil's nut pods or coconuts ( practically the same consistency) over some plastic to catch the shavings. I would imagine you could generate a lot in a short time. Also, perhaps you could shred some hard wood trees ( perhaps the same tree) boil the sawdust and try that.

If you try to cut the pods, make sure you wear full face protection!

Or, I could just mail some pressed bricks:)

Some ideas.
