These forums are the AKA's officially endorsed and supported mechanisms of communication. All users can read them but you must be logged on to post. Only AKA members can use the Members Only forums.

The forums operate much like other forum programs but there may be some visual differences. If you are new to these forums we suggest that you look through the relevant FAQs.

Enjoy!

Hi Barry,

I tried to go to the FAQ's for how to use these forums, but a page comes up saying I don't have permission. Is it linked to my email address that I registered with (i.e. I registered from my home computer, but am writing this from work, mum's the word on that, btw)?

Thanks for all your work on the site.

Jim

Everyone should be able to see the FAQ. Somehow the permissions got reset, probably during some editing that I have been doing. It shouldn't have happened but apparently did. I'm gradually updating all the FAQs as they were somewht out of date.

Please let me know if it works now.

Gidday Barry
When I enter the forum area I change the style to default as I faind it easier to both follow and easier on the eyes.
When leaving it reverts.
Is there a way to keep my settings?
Ive looked but admit to getting older so may well be missing it somewhere
Thanks

You can change your preferred theme in your profile. Click on Manage Profile in the nav bar then on Edit Profile. One of the things you can change is your preferred theme. It works in most of the browsers I have tested.

It does not retain the "theme" at traditional. I have to reset it every time so I can read it.

I still cannot acess FAQ pages so here is my question. I have notification via email. When I click on the link, I go to a "non logged" page where aI cannot answer but must log in to the site, go to the forums find the one I want to answer and then put in an answer. This seems a tough way to do things. Can I just reply to the email or at least since I got the email get straight to the logged in access page to answer it??

Bill,

why can't you access the FAQs? When you click on the link that is at the top of the home page, what happens?

[Edit: I see what happened. I changed the FAQs during updating such that the link in my message in this thread was no longer valid. I fixed that now]

You cannot simply reply to the email notification. However, it sounds as if you are not using the Remember Me option. When you next log on, click that option. Then, do not log off when you close your browser. The next time you access the AKA site you will still be logged on. Then, if you click on the link to a message in the notification email, you'll go straight to the message in question and will be able to answer it if appropriate.

You are welcome to contact me if you need further help.

For the record, I have, with Lee's permission, used his user name and password to log on and have determined that the correct AKA traditional theme comes up. In other words, the server is respecting his choice of default theme and there must be something going on at his end, perhaps a caching problem. I am working with Lee to resolve his problem.

[Edit: as suspected, it appears that Lee's router is caching old pages. I post this mostly to alert people that pages can be cached in a router as well as in the browser. It's something to look at if you are having problems with unexpected pages coming up]
