Hi, the LFS has a tank with abou 6 fish labeled as Epiplatys albrechtsi, but I can't seem to find out anything about them online. Does anyone know anything about these fish? They seem a bit drab at the store, but perhaps the color up a bit in the right environment, so a picture would be helpful also. Any info is appreciated. Thank you.

The spelling of the species name at the store is incorrect. The correct name is Epiplatys fasciolatus olbrechtsi. Nice looking fish!

olbrechtsi have been coming into North America from Guinea over the past few years. They remain a bit drab in comparison to some other Epiplatys, but are easy to keep, interesting fish. They can get big (12cm) and like to jump. They'll eat smaller fish, and indeed, anything else they can fit in their mouths.
Chances are the fish you've seen are wild-caught, depending on where you are. Gary Elson (Montreal) You can view topic.
