West African Killies:: Spawning in Planted Aquarium
What you've done is good. This way you'll be able to manage the breeding program on your schedule.

One thing to keep in mind - the others you've left in the large tank *will* breed in it. Killies lay eggs everywhere, in gravel, sponges, roots of plants, whatever. This means that any fry you subsequently see growing up in the main tank may be offspring of your PRI. However, if you move the adults out, and move in some other, related killie, you can never be sure if later fry are from the original PRI, or the newer killies. My advice is to treat the fry that grow up in the community tank as 'aquarium strain' killies of some sort, and don't distribute them as anything else.

The ones you keep going through the breeding program, will be ones you can be assured are PRI of the location you started with. The breeding tank, if you subsequently reuse it for other killies, be sure to completely clean it out, boiling the gravel, boiling or replacing mops, and ensuring no stray eggs in filters, ornaments, etc.

West African Killies:: Strain recommendation?
It seems i need another suggestion here, sorry!

the idea of feeding twice per days worked nicely, and I'm getting a considerable number of eggs from fp.spoorenbergi, it also helped with a.bitaeniatum, eggs now show up. I tried this with other killies and non-killies and for some egg production definitely increased. -- thanks for that hint.

but it does not seem that any fp.spoorenbergi eggs are fertile, they disintegrate within 2-3 days. young male--wait? do infertile males happen in this species? or is it possible that the eggs need low pH water?

Thanks.

Thanks for your quick replies. I will apply the things you said.
I try to make water changes every 3 days. I also lowered water height and opened the top of aquarium for evaporation.

By the way I fed them with live artemia and sometimes I gave them frozen dried tubifex and bloodworms.

Hi,
The rams will take a temp. closer to 80 deg. while the A. bit. prefer things a little cooler like in the low 70 deg. The rams will probably be the aggressor in the tank if you keep them together. Right now I have some A. bit. in the high 70 deg. range and they are tolerating it as long as you have a good flow of air in the tank.

Sandy

Thank you for the advice. It is the only tank with green water, so I am hoping to keep it. I will start feeding them some frozen blood worms and white worms along with the pellet. I will give the tap water a try too.
