South American Killies:: Sourcing Simpsonichthys Magnificus Eggs
Does anyone know where I can source Simpsonichthys Magnificus Eggs in the USA. I have found them on aquabid, however they are coming from China. There are no listings on eBay for this breed.

walnut shell spawning medium [by bturner]

South American Killies:: walnut shell spawning medium
I very sketchily recall an article by Rosario LaCorte in which he mentions the use of ground walnut shells as a spawning medium for South American annuals---the advantage being that the eggs can be recovered by sifting. I'm interested in learning more about this and would welcome hearing from anyone who has used the material. What are its disadvantages? How does one prepare it for use? What grit sizes have people used?

South American Killies:: Functional belly slider male Austrolebias reicherti
I have a vague notion that eggs disintegrate in peat and higher temperatures exaggerate that. One of the better breeders i know uses Maroxy (chlorine dioxide) and soaks the peat in water containing Maroxy for a few days before drying anf bagging. i have started using it but no results yet to report. Collecting eggs in peat weekly prevents some of the bacterial or fungal attacks on eggs. I suspect dilute Chlorox would work as well.

Lee Harper
Media, PA

South American Killies:: sexing nematolebias whitei fry
Hi Bob, I had been keeping this fish for 6 years until recently, In my experience they have been very hard to sex before 4 weeks, I think you will find some males at 3 but the spotting on the females will start around 4. Lee's suggestion about a half dozen or so fry works good to. Hope this helps and i may have to get a couple pairs from you when they sex out

Eric Beyer

from what I know from friends in brazil they are coveted even there.

Too bad we will never see them alive.

They are semi-brakish from what I have been told.

nice fish none the less.

Lee van Hyfte

South American Killies:: Rivulus speciosus
Yeah, I just emailed Frans & he showed me some pics of a female, and I most definitely have 4 males. It's particularly annoying, as these actually are a nice looking little fish, especially for a Rivulus. I spoke with the supplier & he's trying to find some more.
