Fishroom Issues:: Digital TFH for $0.99 for one year
I am not sure if this post is allowed but I just received an adv for the digital version of TFH for $0.99 for one year.

Might be a good deal for someone who likes the magazine but does not describe to it.

http://www.tfhmagazine.com/earthday2013/

deal ends 4/29

Ken

Fishroom Issues:: hamburg mattenfilter
This is a little update, for 20 long tanks and 15 gallon tanks used for grow outs I recomend the filters. Only if you can get them for reasonable price.

I have been impressed with the filters for grow out tanks, with heavy bioload. So far so good.

I have been playing around with breeding odessa barbs and black ruby barbs. I did a little experiment with 30 half inch fry in a tank with a hydro sponge #5 reticulated foam (15 gallon tank) and 30 more fry in a different 15 gallon tank with the hamburg mattenfilter. I tried to feed them the same, they are right next to each other in the fishroom. Same water change schedule (again, same rack in fishroom) and the fish in the tank with the mattenfilter are noticably larger. Now granted this is a unscientific experiment and I did not take the fish out and measure them. Yet it passes the eye test.

Fishroom Issues:: Water Hardness
Even rainwater would be cleaner. Don't use dehumidifier water! I'm not a Notho guy but I think they are less bothered by hardness than even Fundulopanchax. Why don't you try the tap for a couple of months and see how it works out. If not, it is time for an RO unit. Is it Calcium carbonate hardness or maybe some other mineral?

Fishroom Issues:: Drill size
I just redid the air lines in my fishroom using 3/4pvc. I drilled w/ a 11/32 bit, but I didn't tap the holes. I just used the 1/8 air fittings to tap the holes.

Rich

Fishroom Issues:: Air blower heats up
That was my dad replying for me a few spaces up ;) He helped me with a new 48" x 24" rack that I appreciated his help running air to. I also looked at the small blowers on EBay, but after researching for awhile, settled on an alita linear piston pump. I saw some really small blowers out there, they seem to run hotter than LPP's, and use more energy.

Scott

How did it work out?
I've bought several of these LED strips. Glued to a glass cover, with 12v transformers that I have lying around.

Wayne
If this is still current I maybe interested. Please put them in touch.

I have fully automated Aquaneering research grade racks with polycarbonate tanks, uv, biofiltration or flow through. Have enough to set up a huge facility.

Best fishes
David

Fishroom Issues:: Physics/fishroom heating question
I would also suggest to add a smaller heater' in tandom with your current heater, rather than using a huge watt heater. This will more gently heat the room and share the load...

Markus
