I would suggest not cobining the gardneri and australe. the gardneri are likely to be more aggressive and will win the battle, although a 25 gallon tank with plants may be OK. There will be little, if any hydridisation, but is possible. Single species tanks or a combination of totally distinct species, such as australe and Epiplatys dageti would be better. You do not need a filter with that type setup but a small foam filter would be sufficient, unless you add a lot more fish. Periodic (weekly) siphoning of 20% of the water and replacement with dechlorinated tap water would maintain water quality and could remove any debris from the bottom.
