What is the Nominations Committee?

The Nominations Committee is responsible for soliciting and acquiring the names of those individuals who are interested in being a candidate for open positions on the BOT. There are nine (9) BOT positions and three (3) come up for election each year.

Who can run for the BOT?

ANYONE! Anyone, that is, who is a member of the AKA in good standing, has been a member of the AKA for at least two (2) years and who will have reached the age of eighteen (18) by the date of assumption of office. The two-year membership requirement does not have to be consecutive years, and they do not have to be recent.

What happens if there are 7 people running from the same state? How does the AKA prevent the development of a BOT run by one State or club?

Our founding Members thought of that. There cannot be more that two (2) BOT members from each state. There cannot be more than three members from the same region. That doesn't mean a whole bunch of people from one area cannot run for a BOT position, it only means that on the election ballot, voters will be asked to only vote for one, two or three of the candidates listed.

Why would anyone in his or her right mind run for a BOT position?

O.K. Holding a position on the BOT can be a tedious and thankless job. You will take some grief over BOT decisions and policy. People will question your motives, but ......... If you're the type of person that keeps killies, you belong on the BOT. If you have some ideas on how you would like to see the AKA run, you belong on the BOT. If you have ever been to a show, bought fish through the BNL, are a judge, belong to an AKA committee, have ever been to the AKA website, have bought anything through the Slide Sales, Audio/Video or Publications committees, you belong on the BOT. In short, if you are a living, breathing member of the AKA, and you give even a smidgen of a damn about what happens to it and in it, you should be running for a position on the BOT! The only way that we survive is with your involvement. No candidates, no BOT, no BOT, no AKA, no AKA? I'm sure you get the picture.

Detailed information about BOT membership requirements and procedures are available from the AKA by-laws available here in PDF format.
