JAKA: The Journal of the American Killifish Association (JAKA) is the flagship publication of the organization and is published on a bimonthly basis. It includes a variety of articles, from original descriptions of new species, to accounts of collecting trips, to hobbyist oriented "how to" articles. An index, prepared by Lee Harper and updated periodically, is available in PDF format. This example will allow potential AKA members to evaluate JAKA.
The BNL: The Business Newsletter (BNL) is published each month and sent to current members of the AKA. After January 1, 2012 the BNL will be provided only in electronic format (eBNL). The eBNL is delivered to your email address as an attachment. AKA members should be ensure that their email address is current by clicking on the Manage Profile link at the top of the page or by contacting the membership chairman. A white paper has been published discussing the need to change to the eBNL.
The BNL includes the monthly Fish and Egg Listing, an example of which is available on this site. It also contains the monthly chairman's message, making members aware of issues facing the AKA, news about shows, letters to the editor, an application form to join the AKA (which you can give to other potential members) and other items of interest to members.
Other Publications: In addition to these publications, the AKA publishes books from time to time. Current books include "A World of Killies - atlas of the oviparous cyprinodontiform fishes of the world"; the Killifish Master Index (KMI IV); the AKA Beginners Guide. The latter is provided to all new members and is newly revised. It is also available for sale. Information about these and other books can be obtained on the pages of the online store.
